Other frequently asked questions

Is Casambi bluetooth lighting control reliant on WIFI?
Casambi is not reliant on WIFI for daily use. It is based on Bluetooth Low Energy and it does not need to connect to a Wi-Fi network, It communicates directly with the lights. On completion of programming a connection is required to WIFI for storage into the cloud. The network acts as a mesh throughout the building.

How does it differ to other lighting control systems?
Wi-Fi based lighting control systems, which are only as reliable as your Wi-Fi network, Casambi doesn’t rely on a router or gateway to communicate with the lights, so there’s no single point of failure.

How easy is it to install compared to other Electrical systems?
The lighting control system’s reduced need for switch drops and minimal disruption makes it perfect for all buildings and ideal for conservation projects. There is no chasing or cabling required for a switch location and no centralised brain taking up room on the premises.

Will the lighting control system work in buildings with thick walls?
Yes, Casambi can work in a building with thick walls.

How much does Casambi reduce cabling?
The nodes are located at the circuit they are controlling, or in the light fitting itself, reducing the cable runs for a conventional hardwired system. There is only the requirement to loop a 230v supply from node to node or fitting . The building works as a wireless mesh, and the project requires fewer planning applications. The benefits here are the saving on reduced cabling , and the carbon embodied content for the building is reduced.

How does the app work?
The Casambi app is extremely easy-to-use and is free to download on google play or the app store. It employs gesture control: tap a luminaire to turn it on or off, swipe side-to-side to adjust brightness, up and down for colour temperature, or hold to change the colour. It’s simple to use for both installer and end user. But is not necessary for normal use,  localised preprogrammed switches located in each room can be used.

What is the difference between the Casambi system and a smart lighting solution?
The functionality is the same as any hardwired system. There is no centralised control panel , the network is a mesh with the nodes sited through out the building.  There is no need to individually wire each circuit back to a control panel resulting in reduced cable runs.  Casambi is universally compatible. It’s based on bluetooth low energy, which comes as standard with every smartphone, tablet and smart watch. There are thousands of compatible luminaires, drivers and control components in the Casambi Ready ecosystem – and the number is growing by the day. It’s the biggest bluetooth-based lighting ecosystem there is.

What is the battery life of a switch?
The switch is operated using kinetic energy so there’s no battery. Most switches are guaranteed for 1 million clicks.

How secure is the Casambi lighting control system?
Casambi has multiple security levels, ensuring the wireless light control is entirely safe, there are two levels of access which are password accessible the user and the administrator. There is no necessity to have access to the network when only using the switches.

How does the cost of a Bluetooth wireless system compare to conventional systems.?
When the total costs of the system are calculated. the costs are estimated to be 30% less expensive
