Rocky Wall Featured in The Sunday Times

We were delighted to see Rocky Wall featured in The Sunday Times as one of the lighting experts contributing to a recent feature exploring Ireland’s relationship with downlighting and the growing appreciation for thoughtful lighting design.

The article examines how lighting in Irish homes has evolved and why many homeowners are moving away from uniform grids of ceiling downlights in favour of layered lighting schemes that better support everyday living.

Sharing his perspective, Rocky explained that open-plan living spaces require different types of lighting for different activities.

“Lighting for relaxation should be fundamentally different from the task lighting you need in a kitchen area and requires more indirect, softer light sources.”

Rocky also reflected on how far residential lighting has come over the past few decades.

“Now we are switched on to the power of good lighting. I think people are just much more aware of the difference lighting can make to a space.”

With Irish homes relying heavily on artificial lighting for much of the year, considered lighting design has never been more important. Rather than treating lighting as an afterthought, a well-designed lighting scheme enhances how a home looks, feels and functions.

At Wink Lighting, we believe every home deserves a lighting design that complements the way people live—balancing task lighting, ambient lighting and feature lighting to create comfortable, welcoming spaces throughout the home.

We’d like to thank The Sunday Times and journalist Kirstie McDermott for including Rocky’s insights in this feature.
