Desire
We worked closely with Kieran Fitzgerald of the Kilkenny City Council to generate a sustainable urban lighting designed scheme for The Lady Desart pedestrian bridge . The entiacial desire was to have no visible light fittings at all .With this restriction the use of the handrail as the light source became the most visible option .
Solution
We researched all the available options in the market for a solution and the best product we could find was the LED POD 4o asymmetric from Klik Systems. The LED light source is concealed inside the hand rail and all the associated cabling are run through the handrail . The installation is a click and play scenario which was a pleasant surprise to the installer who had allowed 4 days for two guys to install . He rang me at 3 pm on the first day to say they were finished .
Control
The system has a total power consumption of 242 watts including all losses. With consideration for the bat population we designed and installed a controller to dim the lighting at 12 midnight by 30% and at 2 am a further reduction 20%. This results in the reduction of power consumption and an extended life of the LED light fitting.
