Project Location: Portmarnock, Co. Dublin
Lighting Design & Supply: Wink Lighting
Architects: Keating Architects
Set on the coast in Portmarnock, Co. Dublin, this contemporary home enjoys beautiful views towards Portmarnock Beach, Lambay Island and Ireland’s Eye.
Wink Lighting provided the complete lighting design and supply for the residence, developing a scheme that works in harmony with the clean architectural lines and natural light throughout the house.
The lighting is deliberately understated, with discreet architectural fittings and concealed linear lighting integrated into the fabric of the building. Illuminated niches, stair and circulation lighting, carefully positioned wall lights and feature fittings create layers of warm light without competing with the architecture.
Externally, architectural and landscape lighting extends the scheme beyond the interior, highlighting the form of the house, covered terraces and planting while creating a warm transition between inside and out after dark.
The home was featured on RTÉ’s Home of the Year, where the late architect and presenter Hugh Wallace praised the lighting design:
“My eye is completely taken to the lighting design, which is perfection in itself. They have lovely wall lights, they have the most amazing ceiling lights which you can’t see, they’re so small but function so well…”
