Why is there a need for acoustic lighting in offices and public spaces?
There are numerous benefits to controlling acoustics in a space. By keeping background noise below threshold levels productivity, focus and memory retention can all be improved. It allows workers to perform tasks more efficiently because of the enhanced sound control. Communication is also better as speech intelligibility is increased when the background noise level is quieter. This is particularly important in educational environments and is especially true for those with hearing impairments. Privacy is also improved as vocal acoustics don’t carry as far.

What is the WELL Certification? How does acoustic lighting help an office/public space comply with the WELL standard?
A WELL certified building is one which adheres to the WELL Building Standard, which implements science based strategies to improve human health. It is made up of ten concepts. Two of these concepts are Light and Sound. The sound concept requires a plan to improve acoustical comfort, background noise, speech privacy and reverberation time. Additional points can be scored for lower background noise levels and shorter reverberation times. Acoustic light offers a solution on all these fronts while also meeting light level and quality requirements from the light feature.
