Wink applied creativity and conservation expertise in providing lighting design services for the offices of the INTO (Irish National Teacher’s Organisation) on Parnell Square, just off O’Connell Street. Located in a Georgian terraced building, the INTO premises underwent a complete refurbishment, designed by architects DMVF. As the project nears completion, it’s exciting to see the effect of the lighting design being revealed
Our goal was to bring in aesthetic and playful elements that would complement and enhance the building’s character. Due to conservation restrictions, we couldn’t recess lighting into the structure, so we opted for surface-mounted and suspended pendants, which proved to be highly effective. We also incorporated Casambi a lighting control system that is ideal for conservation projects. Casambi was a great option for the heritage building as it greatly reduced the amount of chasing and wiring required for switches in walls and ceilings where minimal intervention was required. It gave them full lighting control including on/off timers, pre-set dimming levels and programmable scene setting.
Additionally, we wanted to highlight certain elements in a more creative way. For example we introduced back lighting to this egg shaped alcove framed by a steel bar, to create an eye-catching and distinctive light from a quirky feature original to the building
In the archway below, the lighting feature immediately catches the eye as you pass through this distinctive curved doorway.
In the canteen area, we incorporated circular lights also from BPM (Florida). These modern LED fixtures, available in four different diameters, add a touch of elegance while maintaining a clean, contemporary look.
We used a suspended rectangular pendant from BPM, which serves as both a striking visual feature and a source of even, functional task lighting. This fixture not only adds drama to the space but also allows for flexibility in how the room is used.
We will share more details on this exciting project when it is completed.
