Behind the scenes with our designer Aimee

We recently worked on a Georgian home in Dublin where lighting played a key role in updating the space while respecting its period character. Our home lighting designer Aimee Corcoran took us through the project, focusing on how smart lighting solutions can transform both interior and exterior areas.

Kitchen & Dining: Smart, Flexible Lighting

In the kitchen and dining areas, Aimee used Pledj, a Bluetooth lighting control system that offers flexibility without the need for hard-wired switches.

“This system allows us to control up to 10 different circuits from a single Bluetooth switch,” Aimee explains. “It’s a simple way to create different lighting scenes without multiple wall switches.”

This setup is especially effective in open-plan spaces, where clean lines and minimal visual clutter are important. With plenty of natural light and large glazed areas, integrated lighting was used to enhance the space without competing with daylight.

Exterior Lighting: Extending the Space

Outside, the focus was on subtle, effective lighting that supports the interior.

“Lighting the ground directly outside the glazed doors helps throw light outward into the garden,” Aimee says. “It creates a visual connection between inside and out, especially in the evenings.”
