Monaghan Town Centre has recently been revitalised through the introduction of an innovative night-time lighting scheme and a series of architectural enhancements. This transformative project has reimagined the town’s visual character, creating a more inviting and atmospheric public realm that highlights and respects the existing architectural heritage.
At the centre of the initiative is Church Square, a focal point of the redesign and now proudly recognised as the Winner of the Urban Design Award at the 2025 RIAI Awards.
Work on this project began over three years ago for Monaghan County Council, in collaboration with Fáilte Ireland’s ‘Destination Towns’ initiative, and was led by Henry J Lyons.
This transformation is the result of a close collaboration between Wink and the design team at ARUP. Together, they carefully specified, supplied, and delivered the lighting scheme for Monaghan Town Square—focusing on two key structures: the Church and the Courthouse
