Project Location: Co. Kilkenny, Ireland

Lighting Design: Wink
Project Brief
Wink was appointed to deliver a tailored lighting scheme for a beautifully designed private residence in County Kilkenny. The brief, developed in collaboration with interior designer Karina Heaslip, focused on creating a calm, atmospheric home with lighting that complemented the architecture and enhanced the sense of space.
Design Approach
The key architectural feature in the main living space was a vaulted ceiling with exposed trusses. Our approach was to celebrate this height and structure without overwhelming the room. We introduced discreet uplighting to softly highlight the trusses, drawing the eye upwards and adding gentle drama.
Throughout the rest of the space, lighting was kept low-level and understated, with a focus on warmth and comfort. This contrast between the architectural uplighting and ambient ground-level illumination created a layered, intimate atmosphere that feels both open and cosy.
Outcome
Interior designer Karina Heaslip shared her thoughts on the result:
“Wink created a beautiful lighting scheme – in the living area the trusses in the ceiling are all uplit beautifully, whereas everywhere else in the space the lighting is low level, thus creating a lovely soft atmosphere.”
This project demonstrates the impact of thoughtful lighting – how it can support design intent, highlight architectural elements, and shape the experience of a home.
